Liebster Award!

Wow, how do I even begin! I am so thankful for having been nominated for the Liebster Award by, Ishwarya Sivakumar.

Most bloggers, at some point, have heard of or received the Liebster award, unless you are a newbie! From the extensive searches I have conducted in my attempts to learn about this award, I have visited a bunch of blogs and gleaned the following information:

  • This award exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers.
  • It has German origins – the word “liebster” has several definitions: dearest, sweetest, kindest, nicest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, welcome, sweetheart and boyfriend (really?)
  • It follows similar principles as a chain letter, in the sense that it should be passed forward to a certain number of people.
  • It can be misconstrued, depending upon your personal views, as either something wonderful (who doesn’t like awards?) or as an annoyance (a chain letter that involves work).
  • The choice lies within each of us to ACCEPT it, and continue PAYING IT FORWARD or to refuse to accept it, thereby STOPPING or INTERRUPTING the chain. However, if you stop the chain, you are only hurting yourself (keep reading for benefits you will have)!
  • Personal views play an important part in our choice to participate. Some people have refused to accept it and have made attempts to “break the chain”. There have been many people who have been nominated, yet refused to accept it, and now their blogs have been abandoned.
  • Variations have been made over time to the “rules”.
  • Marketing plays a role in accepting this award, as other bloggers are promoted. (This is not a bad thing, however, since people should help others!)
  • Other awards are a part of the whole “meme“. These include “One Lovely Blog Award”, the “Sunshine Blog Award” and the “Versatile Writer Award”.

Ishwarya Sivakumar is the author over at Ishwarya Writes. Where she writes lovely blog posts mostly about fashion, cooking, healthy living, and parenting. Her posts are inspiring and beautifully done. If you have not checked out her blog please be sure that you make it there! I am already seeing some yummy dishes, to try! She offers so much insight into healthy living, her blog is just chuck full of information I can’t seem to stop reading!

Now on to the questions about my blog!
1. What is the story behind your blog name?
My blog name – Sticky Boogers – comes essentially from a nick name my husband and I call our three kids when they are well acting like sticky boogers! This saying is something that anyone who has a relationship with children will know all too well! But in case your not in the loop, picture wiping your child’s nose and ending up with sticky boogers on your hands. You know the ones that need a little extra Dawn dish soap to power through and remove from your skin!!! So I chose Sticky Boogers because, as homeschoolers that makes them a bit more ‘sticky’, in some cases no amount of Dawn and scrubbing will remove them!
2. When and why did you start blogging?
I originally started blogging during fall 2014 and stopped for a long time I originally had no intent of returning to writing. But, I decided it might be a fun way to interact with others, tell our family story, and maybe even help and encourage others along the way.
3. Where would you like to be in five years time?
Sleeping… I mean come on, I am one exhausted mama! Hahahaha only teasing! I have a simple mindset, meaning I am not planing an exact location of WHERE I would like to be. It is more of a WHO I would like to be with – So if I answer that question I would like to be with my family. Anywhere in the world, as long as we are all together I will be forever happy.
4. If you could write a letter to yourself ten years ago what is one thing you would tell your younger self?
I would tell my younger self, to look ahead to my goals, and not get distracted by the challenges in the present.
5. What do you find to be the most challenging part of blogging?
The hardest part for me is the grammar. So to all you grammar Natzi’s out there – please be kind- I have every intent of doing The Professors 2nd Grade grammar curriculum with him LOL.
6. If you could travel to anywhere in the world where would it be.
If I could go absolutely anywhere I would choose a small rural town in Maine. BUT only if I get to go in the fall!
7. What is your favorite food?
Well this one is easy, Chocolate – I am a woman after all – and just ask Karen over at Blue and Green Together. Just give me a salad and I am one happy gal!
8. What is one thing you want to do before you die?
I would like to have the opportunity to visit every country and write about my travels, the sights I see and the people I meet.
9. What is your favorite post that you have written?
This one is tough, as I have not written many yet. Can I take a pass on this hahaha.
10. What advise would you give to someone just starting a blog?
I would tell someone to share their story, the honest posts are the ones most connected to.
11. What is one goal in blogging that you would like to complete in the next year?
I would like to establish my own domain and sign up with a host. I am still learning what options are available for this and trying to decide what I actually need to meet my blogging goals.

Where are We Now?

If you have managed to come across this blog by some dumb luck, I would like to welcome you and hope that you will continue to join me on our homeschooling journey.

Our family is about to embark on a new adventure in the world of homeschooling. We are in our third year of homeschooling and our adventure is about to get CRAZY! Not only is this our first year schooling 2, but we are also awaiting to embark on a road-school adventure!

We have been preparing for our major downsize for the last 2 1/2 months. We are hoping the end is near as our house is nearly empty and we have started collecting the various things we will need while we travel. I cannot believe the amount of stuff we have hauled out of our home to make this new adventure happen! To give you a mental image of what our home looks like right now… picture this, matress’ on the floor, every piece of clothes packed apart from a one week stash left in the closets, two dressers, one TV, school supplies, the toys consist of a toy kitchen, play-food, wooden blocks, Duplo blocks, Legos, and School Zone Tablets for our big kids. This apart from a few random plastic dishes is all that remains in our house.

Don’t get me wrong, this downsize was hard. VERY HARD. But looking back I am so glad that we did it! I look around our empty house and honestly the only thing I miss is our couch ( it would be nice to not sit on the floor, ya know). The rest was just stuff, that is what I kept telling myself as we were purging the house! By golly did we have A LOT of stuff! When this is all said and done what is left of our entire house will fit in 3/4 of a small bedroom! It’s amazing what prospects of a new life, new adventure, new surroundings, new job, new everything, can do for motivating a family loaded down with stuff!

If you are wondering when we plan to leave, well that is a great question. We are leaving as soon as we get the call! At this point as of this moment today at 10:39 pm on a Friday night we have no idea when or where we will land. On one hand that is frightening! On the other hand its strangely euphoric almost. I am actually enjoying the empty house! My husband went to a trade school in California and is now certified to maintain the wind turbines. We are currently just waiting for a call on a very promising job. This job will have us traveling at least 50% of the time if not more. We have prepared ourselves for as much as 100% travel though. We can hardly stand the anticipation!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post about what curriculum and supplies we have saved and plan to use for the school year!

What else do you do with empty suitcases while you wait for launch day! Ride them of course!

The Crazies

Welcome to our little corner of the world! I’d like to take a moment to introduce my family!

My son, Mason, who will be known as The Professor, is 6 and has been our little guinea pig as we dive into our home learning adventure! He is always wanting to know. I often hear him asking, ‘ hey mom tell me about that’. He loves to hear about everything. Sometimes I think he just wants to hear us talk! He has such a curiosity of the world around him, always studying things with his senses.

Ms. Kaycee, 3, also known as ChubChub, is my personal clone. She gets more than just her looks from me if you know what I mean! She is a very matter of fact kind of gal, or at least tries to be. She is learning to count to five on her fingers, and she is struggling showing me three fingers so instead holds up four, insisting that really she is showing me three. This girl in her mind is never wrong, but when she realizes she is, it is absorbed quietly, with a look of all its own. She has extra sensitive feelings and a confidence shines!

Then there is Baby Emma, aka Mini Moose, she is our youngest and likely last member in our little club. At 1 year old, I am cherishing every moment of her tininess. She is a walking, talking, sticky booger. Just a little smile from mom and dad can make her go from heartbroken to a giggle box. She is growing and changing so fast sometimes I hate to blink!

My husband, Shane, whom I like to call Thumbs. Stole my heart when I was 17! He is my do all guy, and not the kind that does it with duct tape! He always amazes me with his creativity. This man put a car cd player, four car speakers, an amp, and a sub woofer on a lawnmower that goes 35+mph! The things this guy comes up with sometimes!

I guess this is where I tell you a little bit about myself. ::crickets:: No I’m only teasing. Although I am sure you will realize in a snap that my whole world is wrapped up in, Thumbs, The Professor, ChubChub, and Mini Moose!

Mason, Kaycee, and Emma
